Supporters of the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn’s new Sensory Play Room in Crown Heights met this week to view the completed facility.
Children of the some of the donors had a chance to play in the renovated space which is well equipped with brand new, state of the art equipment and toys. This room is designed to stimulate the senses of children, offering them a relaxed and calming environment to play, learn, create and let their imaginations run wild.
Five months of touring similar facilities, meeting with therapists and mothers to ensure that this room will 100% suit the needs of the children, came to an exciting conclusion last month and the visiting families were very excited to see the finishing touches.
The room was made possible through a number of donors. Mr. and Mrs. Yerachmeal Jacobson noted that this room will service a vital and sometimes overlooked part of the community. Their donation was made in honor his brother Shlomie for a complete and speedy recovery.
“This is all we need, a place away from home, where the kids feel like they are home,” remarked one local mother. The Sensory Room is open during Friendship Circle programs, after school and on public holidays for children in the FC program.
“This is just a stepping stone,” says Rabbi Berel Majesky, who together with his wife Chani took over the reins of directing the already tremendously successful Friendship Circle of Brooklyn roughly 18 months ago. “There is a growing need for a local ‘clubhouse’ for our children and their families. This is just the first step. We trust that together with the communities help, we will be able to IYH fill this void on an even greater scale.”
