It’s an old camp with a stunning new twist: Camp Gan Israel of Johannesburg, recently launched their new overnight camp at an event at Chabad of Norwood last week.
The magnificent new nine and half acre site recently purchased by Chabad House is situated in Uvongo, KZN (about 130 km southwest of Durban) promises to be home to weeks of great fun packed with meaning.
Internationally renowned Mentalist, Gilan Gork, entertained the kids at the two launch events, one each for boys and girls. Rabbi Pini Pink, who directs the camp along with his wife, Rochie, revealed the many wonderful amenities of the campsite, and detailed what kind of experience the kids can look forward to.
Mendy Katzman of New York and Yisroel Levertov of Arizona will return to serve as head counselors of the boys’ division, after heading Camp Gan Israel this past winter.
“The community and staff were incredibly warm, and the campers were loads of fun,” said Katzman. “It was a tremendous experience all around, and I’m looking forward to coming back.”
Rochel Sputz of Montreal will lead the girls’ division.
“I can’t wait to see it for myself,” said Mushkie Rodal, a camper. “It’s going to be lekker.”
Sorry “in the Know” it is on a river called the uVongu. the river goes about 1.2 Km to the waterfall into the lagoon on the beach. To the west is a quarry and to the east the highway.
Looks Terrific! Hatzlocho Robo! Brings back wonderful memories of the first Gan Yisroel overnight MANY years ago that I went to as a child. May you continue mechoyil el choyil in your wonderful work!
