The newly appointed Commanding Officer of the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, Captain Bekim Becaj, paid a visit to Crown Heights community leader Chanina Sperlin this week.
Captain Becaj, who was recently assigned to the position by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, was previously responsible for overseeing the Brooklyn South Detectives.
He was accompanied by NYPD Community Affairs Chief Richie Taylor during the meeting.
Sperlin welcomed Captain Becaj and shared with him the concerns of the Crown Heights community. The Captain expressed that he is here to respond to any form of hate crime and extended the full resources of the Hate Crimes Task Force to ensure safety and accountability.
