In the heart of the Yiddishe, Chassidishe shtot that is Montreal stands the beautiful Beis Medrash Campus. It was founded by the Frierdiker Rebbe and – unique amongst yeshivos – carries the Rebbe’s name. Its incredible hanhala has cultivated and educated generations of shluchim, mashpiim, and chassidishe baalei batim.
A yeshiva that carries the authentic tradition of Tomchei Temimim while addressing contemporary needs, Montreal Zal is proud to officially announce a new addition to its team: Rabbi Yisroel Kaplan. Rabbi Kaplan is known for his warmth, deep care and devotion to every bochur. At the young age of twenty-six, he already has eight years of teaching experience in various yeshiva settings.
In addition to daily shiurim, Rabbi Kaplan will launch new initiatives and programs in the yeshiva such as monthly panels, an expanded library of English sefarim, and a new focus on mental health. “I like to think that Montreal stands for “Mont-Real,” [as in] ‘Chabad mont p’nimiyus– authenticity,’” says Rabbi Kaplan. “It has historically been known for its emphasis on internalizing Chassidus and yir’as shamayim authentically, without showiness– ‘ohn blitus.’ That’s what we will continue doing in a contemporary setting, with the launch of many new initiatives.”
The bochurim have quickly taken to Rabbi Kaplan’s relatable, fresh energy. “Rabbi Kaplan’s warmth is contagious. His Tanach shiurim were a highlight of my day,” said one student. Another shared that, “Rabbi Kaplan has been at my side through thick and thin. He changed my life. “
These sentiments are shared by all of the bochurim in the yeshiva, and the focus on warmth and connection is one that the yeshiva’s hanhala members share. “We believe in every tomim, no matter what he’s going through,” Rabbi Yisroel Kaplan expressed. And it’s true: The yeshiva is a place where meaningful relationships between staff members and students actually exist, and individual attention is given to every student. This atmosphere of connection is what helps the bochurim achieve real, pnimiyus’dike growth. At the helm of it all are Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Kaplan and Mashpia Rosh’i Rabbi Gurary, who lead the staff in this vision for a yeshiva that focuses on every bochur.
The best part is that all of this is so accessible. Montreal Zal is a quick and easy trip from New York, and its affordable tuition takes a huge load off of parents’ shoulders. Bochurim can access a yeshiva experience that is grounded in years of success under the Rebbe’s guidance and is infused with a fresh, forward-thinking approach, all for an unbeatable price and in an unmatched location. This combination makes for a yeshiva that is truly the best of all worlds.
