Purim is definitely voted as one of the most fun holidays for children. Between delivering mishloach manos, making noise with the graggers going to the different community carnivals, events, etc, which child would think to take a pause from all of that?
And yet, that is what the children of New Haven chose to do!
To pause their fun. Why?
To CARE for OTHER Yidden who don’t know about the mitzvos of Purim. To bring the joy and light of Purim to thirsty neshamos that are waiting for someone to find them.
Just a few days before Purim, a form was sent out for children to sign up to spend their time going on mivtzoyim, and within hours, the shifts were filled up! No incentives.
The mitzvah tank took 3 shifts with over 55 children to the campus area of Yale University of New Haven, giving many Yidden the opportunity to fulfill the mitzvos of Purim, and countless sheva mitzvos cards were given out.
This is what the Rebbe wants from his chassidim. Not just the adults, but the children! On their favorite holiday of purim!
In the Rebbe’s words: “To commemorate Purim, we include even the youngest children (as it states in the Megillah regarding the Nes of Purim)- boys and girls. Enable other Yidden, especially those in the army, old-age homes, orphanages, hospitals, and prisons to properly celebrate.” (Letter of the Rebbe, 11 Adar 5741)
The Rebbe is relying on each of us, especially the children, to locate and connect every Yid with their neshama.
Pesach is coming up, and the children in New Haven are already in full gear making phone calls to each Anash community member to supply them with Matzos & Pesach Guides to find every Neshama in the area including their coworkers, plumbers, dentists, lawyers, etc and ensure no Yid is left behind!
Your community can do it too! Don’t underestimate the children. There’s a reason the Rebbe always counts on them.
We are already tasting the fulfillment of the promise “V’atem Teluktu Echad Echad”- every single Yid will be personally gathered by Hashem” with the coming of the Geula now!
