For over 20 years, Chaim Mizrachi has been a familiar face in the world of hats. His journey began in Kfar Chabad, Israel, where people quickly started calling him “the Master” because of his skill and attention to detail.
Over the years, he honed his craft with renowned brands like Borsalino and even launched his own label, Bolini, in Lakewood, New Jersey.
Now, he’s bringing his expertise to Crown Heights with Maestro, a new store on Kingston Avenue. The name, inspired by the Italian word for “master,” felt like a perfect fit, carrying the skill he has cultivated for decades.
“I noticed that people weren’t always happy with the hats available locally,” Chaim says. “My goal is to make every customer feel like a king. That means offering more than great service, it means quality that lasts longer than the hats typically sold today, and we also provide reshaping and cleaning for hats from any company, not just our own. Everything we do is about giving people something they’ll love and that will stand the test of time.”
At Maestro, customers aren’t limited to what’s on the shelf, as they can design their own hat, choosing from styles, colors, brims, and ribbons, and work directly with Chaim to bring their vision to life.
“It’s our VIP experience,” he explains, “You tell us exactly what you want on your head, and we make it happen. It’s personal, special, and unlike anything else in Crown Heights.”
Chaim is especially excited to help bar mitzvah boys find the perfect hat for their special day. “Many of these boys have been looking forward to this moment for years,” he says. “I look forward to greeting them, helping them choose the right hat, and giving them the best experience possible.”
The store also welcomes school tours and group visits, giving students a chance to learn about the craftsmanship and tradition behind hats. Chaim personally teaches how to choose, wear, and care for a hat, making every visit educational as well as fun.
He says that every Maestro hat is crafted with the finest European rabbit fur, shaped on wooden molds, and finished by hand with polished shine and silk ribbons. Each hat is designed to be durable and comfortable.
“We’re not just selling hats, we’re teaching people how to care for them and giving them an experience they can’t get anywhere else,” he says. “That’s what makes this store special.”
