Frum, active and healthy. That is the goal of Ruthy Lesches (nee Nacca), a certified personal trainer and a mother who is launching fitness classes for women in Crown Heights with a distinct, unique approach.
Growing up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she has began fitness training as a teenager. “Working out regularly fills your life with an energy that you cannot get any other way,” she told COLlive.com. With time, she learned how there isn’t a one-size-fits-all in fitness.
“Starting as a teenager, I trained every day and participated in hundreds of classes. I discovered then that the classes which resonated with me were those with a focus on infectious upbeat energy. They made me want to keep returning.”
After her marriage and moving to Brooklyn 3 years ago, she was certified as a personal trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a gold-standard leader in trainer certification. She is bringing that upbeat energy with the launch of “Young Body Fitness.”
“Fitness is for everybody, yet everyone responds to something different,” Lesches says. “Some people enjoy paced and steady, others like to be pushed to the max. My goal is to create a schedule of classes that have that emphasis on being fun as well as being effective.
“I want people to look forward to the class, rather than have to force themselves to go,” she points out. “That’s what I’m hoping to achieve.”
Her signature class is her PowerJump Trampoline class, equipped with professional-grade JumpSport equipment. “A trampoline surface has the unique effect of making a workout feel less intense and exhausting than it actually is,” Lesches said. “It has all the benefits of a traditional cardio routine while still leaving you feeling energized and uplifted.”
There are also Tabata/HIIT classes on offer, as well as circuit training. High-intensity round-based Tabata workouts result in a total-body routine which shows results in a short period of time.
Classes are kept to a small size for personalized attention and guidance, ensuring the exercises are being performed correctly and safely. The classes are centrally located at the spacious Tambourines space on the corner of Albany and Empire, and are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm, with morning classes beginning soon.
Lesches has also completed additional training in women’s fitness specifically, with a focus on prenatal and postpartum fitness. “It’s important that women feel healthy through all stages of pregnancy. I work with women one-on-one and in small groups, tailoring effective prenatal and postpartum fitness routines to their specific needs.”
