A new development including a discount grocery store could hit Bedford Avenue as soon as 2024, brokers said this week, Patch.com reported.
The 105,000-square-foot development, slated for Bedford Avenue between Sullivan Place and Empire Boulevard, will include a Lidl supermarket, office space, retail, some residential units and community space, according to plans released Monday.
Developers are looking to complete the project in 16 months, Patch.com reported.
The project includes Brooklyn’s first Lidl supermarket, a discount price supermarket. Lidl operates more than 170 stores on the east coast, with 25 in New York State. In New York City, Lidl currently operates stores in Staten Island, Harlem and Astoria, Queens.
“We’re confident that Lidl will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and we’re now engaged in preliminary discussions with other national retailers about leasing opportunities at this property,” said Jack Gold, co-founder of the complex’s developer, Seventh Street Development Group.
finally, cheap groceries!
And non of it will be kosher.
this should be interesting, they don’t sell kosher foods in their other stores.
Many packaged items carry a hashgocha, and fruits and vegetables are never an issue
Trader Joe’s would open there!
It would be a mad house near crown heights
Someone should contact the owner and buy it out and bingo should come in
The lease is probably already signed
Lidl has recently closed 5 stores including a Brooklyn location
Lidl is a German company that is very big in their country, they recently came to the US in the last 5 years, and spreading their tentacles everywhere.
These International Conglomerates come in and swallow all the smaller regional chains. Overall, this isn’t a good development.
sorry , but the consumer has the right to choose better prices and better service
This is definitely part of the process of changing the demographic of our neighborhood as the city caters to shelter residents, migrant residents, everyone, in fact, except for our community. They are trying to make it easier for them to stay around here by offering low income items and by changing bus lines etc. We have a Jewish community of thousands concentrated here and you won’t see more than a token corner for kosher food, if that.
Real Estate owners and brokers have the holy opportunity to encourage Jews to live in and move into and shop in our neighborhood- while the City is doing its best to drive us out. You are aware of what is happening here. Don’t sell your souls and sell out your community.
‘They are driving us out!’ I hope you grow to see beyond your delusions
