History was made this past Sunday in Bonita Springs and Estero, Florida.
Over 400 people participated in the opening of the first Jewish Center in Bonita Springs and Estero, which was held together with the lighting of the largest Chanuka Menorah in South Lee County, on US 41.
The Bonita Mayor Peter Simmons and Estero Mayor William Ribble participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The crowd joyously danced to live musical entertainment by Israeli-Latin Singer Yehuda Glantz.
Participants enjoyed hot latkes, kosher pastrami sandwiches, Israeli fast food, donuts and drinks. Children enjoyed activities, crafts and a fun bounce house.
Rabbi Mendy Greenberg and his wife Luba, Directors of the Chabad Jewish Center, thanked the crowd for helping with the purchase of the community’s very own new Chabad Jewish Center, which will serve the local and surrounding communities with Jewish and educational programming and Shabbat and holiday events.
“In light of what has been happening in terms of anti-Semitism around the country, we are proud to be opening a new Jewish Center,” Rabbi Greenberg said. “We look forward to serving all the needs of our Jewish community.”
