R’ Shneor Maatoff, a baal tefillah from the Chabad community in Lod, Israel, has released a new chazzanus album titled “Nusach Lubavitch L’Yamim Noraim.”
The project is the result of years of work, combining his strong vocal ability with an emphasis on preserving the precise Chabad nusach as practiced in 770 Eastern Parkway, the Rebbe’s shul in Crown Heights.
Maatoff, known for his clear and powerful voice, presents the tefillos of the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur in a way that he says captures the atmosphere of 770.
He says he stuck to technical accuracy, seeking to reflect the depth and emotion that characterize the Chabad style of davening.
The nusach is based primarily on the tradition of Rabbi Mordechai Berkowitz, as well as the chazzanim who served in 770 and in Lod, including Rabbi Shmuel Butman and Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, and the ones he heard in Lod – Rabbi Zushe Posner, and Rabbi Nachum Kaplan.
With his new album, Maatoff offers an opportunity for Jews everywhere to connect to the original Lubavitch nusach of the Yamim Noraim. The album will soon be available on streaming platforms.
This week, he released his recordings to Chabad Nusach of Selichos.
