This past Sunday, 9th Cheshvan, the Neubort Family dedicated a Sefer Torah for a Refuah Shelaima for Rivka bas Raachel Neubort and Chaim DovBer ben Rivka Neubort.
With thunderstorms and rain predicted all day, it didn’t stop 1000 people attending the event at Anshei Lubavitch, New Jersey. Rabbi Levi Neubort, Rabbi of Anshei Lubavitch said, “Seeing my mother and brother honored with the last letter was an amazing and emotional experience.”
The day began with completing the remaining 100 letters by family members and various Rabbis from throughout New Jersey. As this went on, refreshments were served and a special arts and crafts program was held for all children. Music was played throughout the 4 hour event by Isser Brikman. The final letter was completed by Mrs. Ruth Neubort and Chaim Neubort.
MC for the event was Benjamin Amzalak, who flew in especially from Australia with his wife Chanie (nee Neubort) for this event. Rabbi Shimon Neubort addressed the crowd whilst the Sefer Torah was drying.
Rabbi Avrohom Bergstein, associate Rabbi at Anshei Lubavitch, said, “It was so beautiful as the existing Sifrei Torah were taken out to welcome the new Sefer Torah.”
“A siyum sefer Torah is a momentous occasion, not only for the congregation that will own the Torah but for the entire city that is home to the congregation,” he said.
Jordan Rockowitz, who attends the shul along with his wife and three children, said the event was ”fun spirited and a great community event.”
Rockowitz particularly appreciated the ruach and the dancing. His son, 15 year old Matan, dressed up as a Sefer Torah and danced with the children, who loved his costume.
