Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taken to hospital on Tuesday to undergo tests after suffering from a high fever and a cough, his spokesman told Reuters.
Netanyahu’s personal physician believes the 68-year-old leader has not fully recovered from an illness two weeks ago and therefore decided he should undergo further tests at the hospital, spokesman David Baker told the news agency.
Netanyahu fell ill in mid-March and canceled his public schedule for five consecutive days.
“The prime minister did not complete the time required in order to recover from the illness he had two weeks ago and therefore the symptoms have gotten worse,” Baker said in a text message.
Please say Tehillim for Binyomin ben Tzila.
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu wrote a short note on his Facebook page: “Today is the birth date of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. I invite you to read about a few of the emotional meetings that I had with him.”
Attached to the post was a link to an article in Hebrew on the news website Arutz Sheva with his personal friend and Chabad activist Rabbi Dovid Nachshon.
Nachshon was brought Netanyahu, then Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, to meet the Rebbe at 770 Eastern Parkway for the first time on Simchas Torah 5745. “Whenever Bibi came to the Rebbe the attitude towards him was outstanding,” Nachshon recalled.
“The Rebbe showed him a great love and you always saw the trust the Rebbe had in that he (Netanyahu) will lead in the correct direction,” Nachshon said.
After he was elected to the Knesset, Netanyahu met the Rebbe said and was told: “I had much satisfaction from your first speech in the Knesset. Continue along this approach, for it is the best path to avoid war. You will have to struggle with 119 others in the Knesset, but surely you won’t be intimidated because G-d is on this side.”
