Mr. Brad Lander, Chairman of the Rules Committee of the New York City Council, got a personal tour of the newly opened Park Slope Mikvah built by Chabad.
Lander, who lives just two blocks away from the mikvah, was already quite familiar with the concept of mikvah, as he is Jewish and also represents parts of Boro Park.
Yet, he still could not contain his excitement upon seeing firsthand this Mikvah with Shliach Rabbi Shimon Hecht. “Wow! This is really beautiful,” Lander exclaimed.
Rabbi Hecht and his son Moshe Hecht walked the influential councilman through the entire facility. Lander marveled at the careful attention paid to the beauty and privacy of the mikvah.
“He exited with a new appreciation of the mitzvah of Taharas Hamishpacha,” said Rabbi Hecht.
Following the tour of the mikvah, Rabbi Hecht sat with the Councilman to discuss how to enhance the welfare of the local Jewish community. Before the meeting concluded, Mr. Lander also put on Tefillin.

Brad Lander was my counselor at Reform Jewish Camp in Indiana back in the ’80s. Every motzei Shabbos they would tell Baal Shem Tiv stories around a bonfire. he was a nice guy.
