Names of Victims in Meron Tragedy Being Released

At least 45 people were killed on Thursday night after a stampede broke out as massive crowds gathered at the Mount Meron religious bonfire-lighting ceremony for the holiday of Lag Ba’omer, in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a “heavy disaster.”

As of Friday morning, the following names have been released:

Reb Shimon Matlun, 37, of Beitar Illit.

Reb Dovid Kraus, 33, of Toldos Aharon. A resident of Beit Shemesh, he is survived by his wife and nine children.

Reb Shragi Gestetner, a Montreal native and known Jewish singer of Monsey, New York.

Reb Yisrael Anakvah, 24, from Beit Shemesh, a father of two.

Reb Simcha Bunim Diskind, 23, from Beit Shemesh.

Reb Menachem Asher Zeckbach, 24, from Kiryat Sefer. He is survived by his wife and newborn daughter.

Reb Eliezer Tzvi Joseph, from Kiryas Joel, Monroe.

Reb Chanoch Slod, 52, from Ashdod.

Reb Eliezer Goldberg, from Beitar Ilit.

Reb Chaim Ozer Seler, 24, of Nevei Yaakov, Yerushalayim.

Reb Yonoson Chevroni of Givat Shmuel.

Reb Yehudah Leib Rubin, of Ramat Gan.

Moshe Mordechai Elchad-Sharf, 12, and his brother Yosef Dovid Elchad-Sharf, 18, of Yerushalayim.
