Avremi hy”d was a special person. He was kind and caring and loved to learn. He shared his excitement for yiddishkeit with other children and helped them in any way possible. He always wanted to do what was right- a true Kabalas Olnik.
Avremi had so much “chein” and was loved by all; young and old alike. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved to sing. (His sweet voice was recorded on Eli Lipsker’s a”h records) His last Friday night, at our family’s Shabbos table, he sang the song “Adir who boelyonim…” (You Hashem are the only true existence in the world) over and over again.
Mivtzaim of the Rebbe was a way of life for Avremi. On one such occasion, on a Friday afternoon, he met a man in Manhattan who shared with Avremi the wonderful news that his wife had given birth to a baby girl. Upon hearing this, Avremi encouraged him to give his daughter a Jewish name. The man finally agreed. Sunday evening Avremi went to a phone booth that was closest to yeshiva to make a call to the baby’s father and remind him to go to shul the next morning to give his daughter a Jewish name. Just then, three hooligans came and stabbed him mercilessly- for no reason other than because he was a Jew. That evening Avremi’s pure and holy Neshama was returned to its maker. He was 17 years old.
Following this terrible tragedy, our neighbors, Rabbi Eli ע”ה and Leah Lipsker, wanted to do something to perpetuate Avremi’s memory. Under the directives and Brochos of the Rebbe, the Keren Avrohom Eliezer camp fund was immediately started. This fund helps children from financially struggling families enroll in summer camp. For the past 39 years, my parents, Rabbi and Mrs. M. Goldman joined together with the Lipskers and have helped over 7,125 children have the excitement of a wonderful and much needed summer experience.
Keren Avrohom Eliezer will be hosting a Chinese auction to raise funds to help send children to summer camp. The event will take place this Sunday May 7th 2017, 11th Iyar 5777 at the United Lubavitcher Yeshiva 570 Crown St at 7:30 P.M.
