Brooklyn born Nechama Laber has traveled over the years each summer from the age of 15 to various Jewish camps around the world.
As a camper Laber attended Camp Emunah, CGI Detroit and Pardas Chana overnight camps. She worked as a counselor and staff member in Suffern, NY; St. Louis, Missouri; Rochester, NY; and Denver, Colorado.
“I grew so much from my experiences in overnight camp that it inspired me to direct an overnight camp for girls of all backgrounds,” she says.
Nechama and her husband, Rabbi Avraham Laber, are the co-directors of Chabad of S. Rensselaer County, NY, and have lived in Troy since 1996 with their 8 beautiful children.
Nechama is a teacher at the Maimonidies Hebrew Day in Albany School and since 1998 has taught all grades from nursery through High School. She founded the Capital Region Bat Mitzvah Club in 1998 and the Bat Mitzvah Camp in 1999.
She now runs the Jewish Girls Retreat. “It has been such a joy to be a part of the growing Jewish Girls Retreat family. We welcome all Jewish girls to join the experience,” she says.
