The new Chabad Shluchim in Mumbai, Rabbi Chanoch and Laiky Gechtman kept the Lag BaOmer tradition of Chabad of Mumbai’s slain directors Rabbi Gabi and Rivki Holtzberg.
The joyous day was marked with a cruise ride for members of the Jewish community and their families, visiting businessmen and families of Jewish diplomats stationed in India’s capital.
Some 100 people of all ages boarded at the Gate of India, the city’s most famous monument, which many tourists looking on with curiosity.
“Welcome to the Lag BaOmer Festival,” a sign on the wooden boat read in Hebrew.
On the cruise, a special children’s program was held with singing, arts and crafts and learning about Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his teachings.
The trip included a kosher BBQ which was organized by Moshe Pinchas Gechtman, a brother of the Shliach.
Chabad of Mumbai’s activities are supported by Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch and Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor of Thailand.
