Mrs. Shura Saidov (Cohen), a Lubavitch woman who risked her life defending Judaism, passed away Wednesday in Israel.
She was 79.
The daughter of known Chossid R’ Refael Chudaitov OBM, she was raised to live Jewish under the threat of atheist communism.
Living in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, she ran a branch of the underground Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch Yeshiva network in her own home.
“She built special walls so the learning won’t be heard outside,” her brother R’ Moshiach Chudaitov of Crown Heights told COLlive.
“She was a real righteous person who never spoke bad about another,” he added. “She had Mesiras Nefesh to keep Kosher.”
Shura married R’ Gavriel Saidov (Persian for Cohen) and they moved to Israel, residing first in Hertzelya and then in Netanya.
The funeral took place in Israel Thursday and she was buried in Jerusalem.
She is survived by children: Moshe Chaim Cohen – Crown Heights; Dovid Saidov – Flatbush; Tamar Heifitz – Mequon, WI; Tzivia Farkash – Netanya; Sarah Yakubov – Nachlas Har Chabad; Efraim Saidov – Netanya.
