Mrs. Shternie Vogel, a beloved mother and grandmother and Shlucha in Postville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Shvii Shel Pesach, 5782.
She was 55.
Mrs. Vogel was born in Montreal, Canada to Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov. She was married to Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, and they served as shluchim to Bogotá, Colombia for seven years. They later moved to Postville, Iowa, where they served as the first shluchim in the area.
Mrs. Vogel served as the secretary of the Chabad school in Postville, and was involved in the yeshiva, hosting and feeding the bochurim there.
She also served as the mikvah attendant for Postville for many years, she went out of her way and was very dedicated to this cause.
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, and their children Chaya Risa Simmons – Chicago, IL, Aizik Vogel – NY and Mendel Vogel.
She is also survived by her her parents, Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov – Montreal Canada/Postville, IA and siblings Rivky Stillerman – Crown Heights, Faigie Gurkov Hilel – Montreal, Malkie Junik – Crown Heights, Mendy Gurkov – Montreal, Levi Gurkov – Oceanside, NY, Nechama Dina Sirota – Nachalat Har Chabad, Israel, Meir Gurkov – Pomona, NY, Eliezer Gurkov – Pomona, NY, and Chaya Gurkov – Montreal.
The levaya will take place on Sunday, passing by 770 at 3:00 pm with burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 4:00 pm.
Shiva will take place at 507 Crown St. (between Kingston and Albany).

Mrs. Vogel certainly went out of her way to serve the community, and was so dedicated to the woman of Postville. She sacrificed her own comfort and gave generously of her time, to accomodate each woman. Her kindness will not be forgotten.
We are so saddened by this tremendous loss….May her family be comforted..
She sounds like such a special person. May Hashem give comfort and strength to her family and friends and bring Moshiach now!

I lived in Postville more than 20 years ago but never forgot Mrs Vogel. Just a kind sweet good hearted person.
