Mrs. Ruthie Simon, a beloved member of the Chabad community of Manchester, England, passed away on Shabbos morning, 17th Shvat, from a sudden illness.
She was 81.
Over the last 60 years, she was known for her fierce dedication to the Manchester kehillas, where she supported numerous community organizations. Mrs. Simon was a woman who emulated total chessed, and generously opened her home and heart to countless in need, locally and beyond.
As a Holocaust survivor, she traveled to the UK on the last train out of Austria where she was raised in North Manchester and married her esteemed husband, Reb Sholom יבל”ט. Together, they built a beautiful, large family Ka”h. They also owned a catering business that they worked together side by side for over 40 years, serving many in the Lubavitch community of Manchester, Bnos Agudah and beyond. Their holy work supported many couples who required monetary assistance in order to get married in a beautiful and dignified way.
They were the designated cooks for the original Manchester yeshiva, where she forged many generational relationships with families, sharing her passion to support those in Torah learning.
She was known as a tremendous baalas chesed, always optimistic and filled with Simcha and a role model as a true bas Yisrael.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Reb Sholom Simon and her 3 children, Mr. Dovid Eliyohu Simon, Manchester; Mrs. Faige Rochel Golomb, Chabad of Sheffield, UK; and Rabbi Yossi Simon, Chabad of Golders Green, UK.
She is also survived by her sister, Eva Henry (Manchester) and her brother Shloimy Grunsfeld (Israel); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren worldwide.

There are times in my life that I was blessed to meet sincere and unique and special people, but very rarely was I privileged to meet such a Gem.
Her smile her warmth her acceptance her unconditional love, created an aura of safety and tranquility.
Being in the presence of such greatness was a true privilege.
She will be sorely missed, but that bright and shiny light will continue illuminating this world.
May we be blessed to be reunited and rejoice with her at many family simchas.
May her family be blessed with Arichas yomim and shonim toivois.
She was the sweetest happy lady!!!! Always with a smile!!
Such a lovely lady…I didn’t know her well, but she impressed me with her eidelkeit as well as her strictness in Kashrus and her overall frumkeit and Chassidishkeit. What a loss to my former community.
What a loss & what a shock to our community in Manchester. She was just so nice. I’m sure her Neshama is whaching over us, so that we can being Moshiach Now!!!!
We miss you Bubba!
ברוך דיין האמת
Mrs Simon ע”ה and יבלחט”א her husband Reb Sholom ‘שי are jewels in the Manchester community.
Their home was always open. Their מעשים טובים was done so unassumingly, in the sense of “it has to be done, let’s do it quickly and quietly” and not even realizing they had some anything.
When they catered simchas, they were part of the simcha, not just doing as a business.
May Hashem bentch Reb Sholom and his children and familes with good health and long life and happiness.
הקיצו ורננו שוכני עפר והיא בתוכם
I have experienced their kindness first hand.
sorry for your loss the simons family. What a great name and mishapacha! H-shem bring moshiach for the whole mishpacha and manchester!
For the last eleven or so months of her life, since before Purim and during the on/off lockdowns, her stalwart husband and she were resident here in Sheffield. From Leicester Road in the heart of frum Salford, they had been regular visitors (at Yamim Tovim, simchas, and often just for a weekend) to our Rabbi- their son-in-law- and their daughter our phenomenal Rebbetzen. This was however to prove a final visit by the Nifteres. We in Sheffield will miss her greatly, as an always-cheerful but wise Eishes Chayil.
