Mrs. Rochel Levin, the beloved matriarch of a large Chabad family and resident of Kfar Chabad, Israel, passed away on Tuesday, 18 Adar, 5785.
She was 97.
Mrs. Levin was born in 5688 to her parents, the famed Chossid R’ Avraham Pariz and his wife Rivkah Baila, from Vitebsk, Russia. The family immigrated to Israel in 5686, where they settled in Petach Tikvah.
Her father was a devoted Chossid of the Rebbe, who worked for many years with the Rebbe in the United States, and was the Rebbe’s Shliach as the Director of Merkos Linyonei Chinuch in Israel.
She married her husband, R’ Zalman Levin, a devoted Chossid and Baal Menagen, who was featured in many of the Chabad Niggunim ‘Nichoach’ recordings.
Mrs. Levin was known as a true Chassidishe woman, who was dedicated to Mivtzoim and the Rebbe’s Inyanim. She learned Chitas daily well into her 90s.
A beloved grandmother to her large family, she merited to see great-great-grandchildren.
For many decades she worked as the cook of the Central Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva in Kfar Chabad, where she cared for hundreds of students—who over the years grew into many thousands, all of whom received motherly care from her.
It is said that Mrs. Levin lived a long life thanks to the blessing of the Frierdiker Rebbe. She told that during the Frierdiker Rebbe’s stay in the Holy Land, her mother brought her daughters—Pesia Chaya (Wolff) and Rochel (Levin)—to the Rebbe when he was in Petach Tikvah, and they received a blessing for long life.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Freida Levin – Jerusalem, Rabbi Gershon Levin – Kiryat Gat, Mrs. Sari Soffer – Jerusalem, Mrs. Bracha Yehuda – Kfar Chabad, Rabbi Yossi Levin – Kfar Chabad, Rabbi Yankele Levin – Kfar Chabad and Mrs. Leah Yisraelovitz – Jerusalem.
She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Gitel Glitzenstein – Jerusalem, Israel.
The Levaya will take place today from her home in Kfar Chabad (across from the yeshiva) at 14:00, and from the Shamgar Funeral Home at 16:30 to the burial on Har Hamenuchos.
