Rebbetzin Altein was my kallah teacher back in 1981. We were a group of kallahs studying in what I believe was her mother’s home in Crown Heights. Her mother sat on an armchair in the dining room where Rebbetzin Altein taught us. I was thinking then that she had Kibud Eim, making sure her mother was comfortable and having nachas.
May she have a lichtiger Gan Eden, and plead for the final Geulah תיקף ומיד ממש. She will surely be a guteh beter for her family and all klal Yisrael.
Truly a great person, with such a happy disposition. She was also my Kallah teacher (with just a few young kallahs in class) in 1970!
Rebetzin Altein was also my kallah teacher in 1970 at YUHSGB.
If we, her students, can reach out to at least one other lady today, to keep taharas hamishpocho or keep it better. We can’t be at her levaya but we can do this for her great neshomo.

… all thru the years from before I became a chasid of the Rebbe … right up to my children establishing their own Chabad homes and raising the next generation of chasidim of the Rebbe.

Although she was my Kallah teacher, I remember words she spoke at a Shalom Bayas shiur, “You can always make things better”, enabling those in attendance to work on any improvement, however small. And her bold suggestion to find other areas of fulfillment in life, if one’s marriage was not destined to be a bliss filled one.
My kallah teacher spring 1975. she was a real champion and advocate of Taharas Misphocha, especially during a time where morals and modesty were questionable and antiquated. she was a no-frills person and told it like it was, with no compromises or concessions towards a more a popular, secular lifestyle. A dynamic teacher, yet her style was laced with humour and good common Yiddishe seychel. a real no-nonsense person. she will be sorely missed.
She was my kallah teacher to. And a great lady. The world has lost someone very special….

She was the greatest kallah teacher ,I had her back in 1984. When she would speak to an audience, what a powerhouse she was, she could instill so much yiras shamayim in our hearts and souls!! An extraordinary woman!! May she give a powerful soul stirring demand for Moshiach and the geula on high and bring the geula today!!!
I knew rebbetzin as my good friend’s Malka Cohen’s mother. I am so so sorry to hear of her passing. She was quite a lady. May the family be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem

Rebbitzen Altein was also my wonderful Kalla Teacher. But mostly I know her, and her husband, Rabbi Mordechai Altein a’h, as the Rabbi and Rebbitzen in the Bronx who watched out for my great Aunt Chaya Rochma bas Miriam Fayge a’h. With everything else that they were busy with, and I mean really busy with,–they found the time to look in on her whenever I called. I just found a handwritten letter from Rebbetzin Altein, expressing her concern over arrangements to help her. In so many capacities–a real Dugma Chaya of a Chassidiste What a great loss to Klall Yisroel.… Read more »
As a frequent contributor to Di Yiddishe Heim, I often received phone calls from Rebbetzin Altein to discuss articles to be written or that I had already written. From our conversations I was deeply impressed with how utterly devoted she was to the Rebbeim and Chassidus, with all her heart and soul, like one of the great Chassidim of previous generations. Her role as editor, which occupied much of her precious time, was undertaken at the Rebbe’s specific request and regular encouragement, and was performed entirely L’sheim Shomayim with true Mesiras Nefesh. From what I heard, the same was true… Read more »
Rebbetzen Altein was my kallah teacher in 1970. I will never forget her favorite saying. “We believe in Planned Parenthood! We plan to be parents!” Her voice was loud and clear. So may it be also in Shomayin now, demanding that Moshiach comes NOW! Boruch Dayan HaEmes.
