Mrs. Rivkah Maatel Barber, wife of R’ Yitzchok Barber OBM, matriarch of a large Chabad family, passed away on Chof Teves, 5784.
She was 83.
Mrs. Barber was the daughter of Ephraim Aryeh and Devorah Weiss, granddaughter of R’ Moshe Schreiber OBM, descendent of the Chasam Sofer, R’ Akiva Eiger and the Michtav Sofer.
Mrs. Barber is survived by her children, Eli Barber (Crown Heights); Shimon Barber (Crown Heights); Chaya Raskin (Melbourne, Australia); Leah Gurary (Crown Heights); Esty Sputz (Boyton Beach, FL); Chani Bacher (Johannesburg, South Africa); Raizy Schwartz (Crown Heights); Mendy Barber (Crown Heights); and Yitzchok Barber (Crown Heights).
She is also survived by her siblings, R’ Moshe Weiss (Flatbush), R’ Chaim Eliezer Weiss (Monsey, NY); and Yoely Weiss (Monsey, NY). She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, R’ Yitzchok Barber, OBM, and her son, Naftali Isser Barber, OBM.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, January 2nd, Chof Alef Teves, at 9:30 AM at Shomrei Hadas, 3803 14th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11218, passing 770 at 10:45 AM, and arriving at Montefiore Cemetery at 11:30 AM.

She was a very friendly, kind, caring lady, very special person. It doesn’t surprise me to learn she has such illustrious ancestry. It definitely showed. She was a rare one of a kind individual I believe! BDE!
She had an open home and put other people’s needs above her own. May she have a lichtige gan eiden.
She was a wonderful woman who cared for my mother in law and my husband viewing him like another son or grandchild of hers. I met her a few times over the early years of my marriage and she was always pleasant her middos and Ahavas Yisroel

I used to see her in 770 at shiurim because she loved learning .
She did not have an easy life but she was always with a smile .
Even though I didn’t know her well. She always smiled , greeted me warmly , in a beautiful, classy way.

I never met this woman but, from reading the comments I hear she was a very special women. We can all learn from her. She had very wonderful ancestors may her descendants be the same!
