Mrs. Faygie Gross, a longtime resident of Crown Heights and mother and grandmother of a Chabad family, passed away on Shabbos, 6 Tishrei, 5779.
She was 82.
Mrs. Gross was born in Montreal, Canada, the daughter of R’ Nute Zev and Bluma Rosenblum OBM. She married Rabbi Elye Gross, OBM in 1954, and they settled in Crown Heights.
She was known for her open and welcoming home, first on President Street and later on Crown Street in Crown Heights, to many guests from around the world, where she and her husband were mekarev many Baalei Teshuvas throughout the years.
She once related to the Rebbe that she is not much of a public speaker, but she enjoyed hosting many guests in her home. The Rebbe encouraged her throughout the years to continue to take in guests, and told her that Hachnosas Orchim is greater than anything “to bring the Geulah closer.”
She was very active and involved in the N’shei Chabad women’s organization in the early years, as well as Pegisha weekends in Crown Heights.
She left a family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are following in her path of Torah and Mitzvos.
She is survived by her children, Rivkah Ellinson, Noochie Gross, Raizy Edelman, Noteh Gross, and Itchie Ber Gross, all of Crown Heights, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Gittel Lurie of Montreal.
She was predeceased by her sister Mrs. Chana Gerlitzky OBM.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, Sunday, leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 10:00 am and passing by 770 Eastern Parkway at 10:45 am.

There are people about whom we say nice things after they are gone. But I, and many others, said the same things about Mrs. Gross a”h when she was alive. She was one of the kindest, most generous and unpretentious people ever to grace this world I had manyconversations with her – she had endless patience and never said a bad word about anyone. Her house was like Grand Central Station on Shabbos and Yom Tov, filled with her children, their friends and a host of guests from everywhere. Everyone felt like they were her only special guests. It took… Read more »
I had the honor of being her “buddy” on a trip that we both were on. Mrs. Gross was so warm, caring and young thinking. To Raizy and the family and extended families–HaMokom Yenachem Eschem b’soich she-ar aveiei Tzion vYerushalayim. May Moshiach come NOW!
And such a warm and nice family

I met Faygie soon after my moving to NY over 64 years ago. Immediately, we became fast friends till today. Faygie was like the sister l never had. Her advice, beliefs and love were pure and given heartfully. She will be sorely missed. May her children be comforted with warm memories and her love. Esther Mentz

My father Reb Yehuda Clpaman spent hundreds if not thousands of Shabbosim at the Gross residence growing up, he speaks with such great love and admiration about the late Rabbi and Rebitzin Gross A”H. May her Neshama have An Aliya and be a Maylitz Yosher for Klal Yisroel.

BDE. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. From the first day i met her she always had a smile on her face. She definitely brought up amazing children. May you all only know from Simchas from now on.
Auntie Faygie was the sweetest and most pleasant person, so warm and always welcoming, and made me feel like part of the family. She shared and rejoiced in our family’s simchas as if we were her own children. Truly the matriarch in ever sense of the word.

It is with much sadness that I write this. I really liked Mrs. Gross. She always made me feel welcome in her home when I came for Shabbos or Yom Tov meals. As the head of the WIC program on Empire Blvd., she went out of her way to accommodate me, and always with a smile. May her neshama have a lichtike Gan Eden. BDE.

She was a wonderful woman and like a Bubby to me. May her Neshama have an Aliyah. BDE
This is indeed a great loss to all of us in the Crown heights community. Faygie was a lady. Always friendly, warm and caring. She loved her family, her children and grandchildren. Faygie enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful outfits for the young offspring. She never spoke ill of anyone, always helpful and caring. She raised a beautiful family, individuals with great values and good middos. Faygie helped make our world a better place. My heart is filled with good memories of all our years in crown heights and the summers in bungalows. May Hashem comfort all the family members.
BDE. Our beloved great aunt. Amazing woman. Hachnosas Orchim. Grace. Raised an amazing family. She was so loved and will be so missed. May Hashem comfort her whole family.

Boruch Dayan Haemes. She was such a wonderful , kind and caring women she will be dearly missed!!
What a wonderful loving person she was! When I came as a bochur from England in 1974 the Gross’s “adopted” me as their Shabbos bochur. R’ Elya inspired & encouraged me to write a yoman about the Rebbe & 770 just as he did as a bochur.
Now these many years later I am so glad I followed his advice.
Growing up with all the children I know that they will continue the legacy left them by their parents a”h
