Mrs. Devorah Gutnick, founder and leader of the Nshei Chabad women’s organization in Australia, passed away on Sunday, 22 Elul, 5775.
She was 86.
She was born in Melbourne to R’ Avrohom and Zelda Feiglin, members of the first Chabad family to settle in in 1912 (5672). Her trailblazing grandfather, R’ Moshe Zalman Feiglin was titled “Avraham Avinu of Australia” by the Rebbe.
She founded Nshei Chabad of Australia in 1957 by the direct request of the Rebbe. As one of the first such organization, Mrs. Gutnick has received detailed and encouraging letters from the Rebbe (much of which is printed in Igros Kodesh).
Nshei Australia organized regular classes and programs for women to attend and grew in knowledge and connection to Torah and Mitzvos.
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Sholom Gutnick, and children Motty Gutnick – Melbourne, Meyer Gutnick – Crown Heights, Moshe Gutnick – Los angles, CA and Yossi Gutnick – Melbourne.
