Mrs. Chana Rochel Hurwitz, OBM

Mrs. Chana Rachel Hurwitz, wife of Rabbi Pinchas Hurwitz and daughter of Rabbi Shalom Lishner hy”d passed away.

Mrs. Hurwitz was completely dedicated to her children’s education, having suffered much during her childhood. As a child, she escaped along with her family from the Nazis, and they settled in Siberia and later Samarkand. Her father, the chosid R’ Shalom Lishner, was murdered in prison after he refused to break the Shabbos.

Her home in the heart of Jerusalem’s Geula neighborhood was always open to many guests, with hundreds constantly visiting, many arriving with broken hearts and leaving having gained comfort and strength.

Her home was host to many Torah classes and farbrengens, which were attended by many prominent Rabbis.

Rabbi and Mrs. Hurwitz merited to build a family with generations of many descendants, Chassidim throughout the world, including grandchildren who are Shluchim in Israel, the United States, Russia and Ukraine.

She leaves behind 13 children, who serve as Rabbis, community leaders and Shluchim, many known musicians, as well as hundreds of grandchildren and great – grandchildren who follow the path of Torah.

She is survived by her children: R’ Mordechai Yehoshua Hurwitz – Jerusalem, R’ Sholom Hurwitz – Crown Heights, R’ Moshe Hurwitz – Beitar, Israel, R’ Dovid Hurwitz – Lod, Israel, R’ Yaakov Noach Hurwitz – Bnei Brak, Israel, R’ Shloime Leib Hurwitz – Jerusalem, Israel, R’ Yisroel Zushe Hurwitz – Elad, Israel, R’ Tzvi Hurwitz – Jerusalem, Israel, R’ Avrohom Yitzchok Hurwitz – Jerusalem, Israel, Mrs. Greenbaum – Jerusalem, Israel, R’ Reuven Hurwitz – Beitar, Israel, R’ Shmuel Hurwitz – Beitar and Mrs. Mendelowitz – Beitar, Israel.
