Helping Our Own (HOO) connects volunteers with families who may need some extra help. Whether they’ve just welcomed a new baby or are in need of Bikur Cholim’s services, HOO volunteers help lighten the load by providing support and assistance to those in need. HOO program partners with Kimputurin, Shifra Puah, and Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights and combined these volunteers visit over 200 families and 35 seniors.
Today is our chance to give back to HOO, please consider donating via the link below. We thank you for partnering with us in providing support for members of our community.
Thank you to founder, Rabbi Benji Stock, for seeing a need and creating a solution that has helped and continues to help hundreds of families in Crown Heights.
The following poem was written by an anonymous HOO volunteer, from the perspective of a HOO mother.
Overwhelmed and busy,
My chore list makes me dizzy.
The day is short, the night is too,
What can be done with hours so few?
All the children want attention –
And the laundry must be done.
Supper cooked,
Homework worked,
And it’s almost bedtime!
What to do,
What to do –
When the hours are so few,
When the minutes creep past you,
When the seconds slip past too.
And still: cook, clean, bake, and fling–
Laundry into the washing machine.
The day turns into night,
Yet there is still no respite.
And then, a helping hand is extended,
And then, the day is suddenly lengthened.
Girls come once a week,
Helping out – my biggest treat.
The children are so excited,
Parents absolutely delighted.
Now we can finish our chores,
Because these blessed girls walk through our doors.
And while the kids are having fun,
Homework is being done.
Supper can now be made in peace,
And yesterday’s dishes disappear from the sink.
And when the girls say their goodbyes,
I thank them for all the times,
They come and bring peace to my home,
For I cannot have managed alone.
Who are these girls who come and help me?
Why do they volunteer once a week?
These are the lifesaving girls of HOO,
Helping everyone – me and you.
Helping Our Own is what HOO stands for,
Its aim is Chesed you can be sure.
All Jews are OUR brothers – no matter who,
All Jews are OUR sisters – that’s the theme of HOO.
Rabbi Benji Stock launched HOO over 10 years ago,
And since then, it has continued to grow.
He supported the girls, motivated and inspired,
He prioritized Chesed, brought HOO higher and higher.
Now I have one request to ask of you,
Please partner with us and support HOO,
For if you help HOO you help yourself,
Because HOO is about helping everyone else.
Thank you in advance!

We love our hoo girls!
Thank you for the program!
If every HOO family would donate. They would have reached their goal already.
And if every woman who had girls help them after they had a baby would donate, they’d be on a bonus round!
Two of my daughters do hoo almost every week. I don’t see either families names….. maybe they both gave annonomously
Bais Rivka girls are amazing!!
