50 musicians, 3 years of work, 4 singer and dozens of vocals (including a kids choir) are behind a new and exciting project in Jewish music entitled “Chabad with Moshe Laufer.”
The new album, produced by Lubavitcher Levi Tubul of Paris, takes Laufer back to his early days, 30 years ago, when he produced his first Chabad music CD.
Laufer is a legendary composer, conductor and arranger, who recently was the recipient of the prestigious ACUM music award in Israel.
In this latest work, he brings together the sound of modern music and Chabad’s authenticity and sensitive tune, creating a fusion in which neither end is jeopardized, the arrangers said.
“He wanted to create an album that could introduce the new sound of music into Chabad music, without compromising the perfection of the notes,” said a source involved in the production.
The album, conducted by Ilya Lishinsky, features four Chabad singers Shlomo Simcha of Toronto and Mendy Jerufi of Israel.
It debuts two new and young voices: Shmulik Listvand, brother of the famous Dedi duo Amit, and Menachem Levy.
Final arrangements are being made for the album to be released for Shavuos, the end of the no music mourning period of Sefirah.
