A large crowd attended the lighting of a bonfire in Moscow, in honor of Lag B’omer, the yartzeit of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, in the courtyard of the main synagogue “Marina Roscha”, headed by Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar.
In attendance was Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburg of Israel.
After the lighting and joyous dancing, a large Chasidic Farbrengen was held, and the singer Yaakov Shwekey enlivened the event with holiday songs.
On the following day, Lag B’Omer, about 10 children’s parades were held in several neighborhoods in the city, with the participation of thousands of children who made a great kiddush Hashem, reciting verses of the Torah, Tehillim and more – as was instituted by the Rebbe.
