In honor of Gimmel Tammuz, a wealth of manuscripts by our Rebbes of Chabad, are being revealed at a Moreshet auction, introducing rare and important items, such as letters, a Tehillim that was used by the Rebbe and a Tanya with the Rebbe’s handwritten signature.
The upcoming auction by Moreshet Auctions specializing particularly in treasures of Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidism will be held this coming Wednesday at 12:30 (EST). Approximately twenty items are dedicated to rare and unique treasures of Chassidut Chabad.
Among other items, a place of honor is given to first editions of books by the Admor Hazaken including a rare variant, auctioned for the first time, of Shulchan Aruch HaRav Choshen Mishpat – Kopust 1814 edition. This is a pedigreed copy! On the flyleaf, there is a notation indicating that the book had belonged to Rabbi Nosson Note Rosh Av Beit Din of Chernobyl: “זה השולחן ערוך שייך להרב המופלג והמפורסם וחשוב בכל המון עם כמ”ה נתן נטע ראב”ד מטשרנאבל וסביבותיה [This Shulchan Aruch belongs to the greatly distinguished and renowned Rabbi Nosson Note, Rosh Av Beit Din of Chernobyl and its environs]. The Gaon Rabbi Nosson Note served as the Av Beit Din of Chernobyl during the time of the Admor Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai Twersky, the second Admor of Chernobyl. Responsa addressed to him appear in Shut Tzemach Tzeddek. Also featured is a fine copy of the first edition of Torah Or – Kopust 1837, in an elegant leather binding.
The auction introduces a letter by the Maharil of Yanovitz – the brother of the Admor Hazaken, Baal HaTanya – and other historical revelations, including glosses handwritten by the Tzemach Tzeddek. Also included are letters and manuscripts from the hidden treasures of the Gaon and Chassid Rabbi Yissachar Ber HaLevi Horowitz, the renowned Moreh Tzeddek of Lubavitch during the time of the Tzemach Tzeddek. Rabbi Yissachar Ber possessed many manuscripts by the Maharil of Yanovitz and the Tzemach Tzeddek of Lubavitc and many other Chabadic Geonim. His estate also contained many original manuscripts and numerous copies that he transcribed for himself from manuscripts he saw.
The auction also introduces a rare and precious historical letter! Igeret Kodesh and an additional page handwritten and signed by the Rebbe the Rayatz of Lubavitch written in the lifetime of his father, the Rebbe the Rashab, and still from Lubavitch! This is a fascinating historical indication of the Rebbe’s personal involvement in every detail of the yeshiva’s life!
Also featured is a letter by the Rebbe written during the year of mourning for the passing of the Rebbe the Rayatz, before he accepted the Nessi’ut! The letter is written on the official stationery of the Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. The wording of the Igeret Kodesh clearly shows the Rebbe’s reluctance to accept the burden of the Nessi’ut and his adherence to his belief that all matters derive directly from the power of the Rebbe the Rayatz. Among others, the Rebbe writes: “הפ”נ שלו נתקבל, וקראתיו בערב יום הקדוש על הציון, ואח”כ בהיכל כ”ק מו”ח אדמו”ר הכ”מ, שלשם נכנסים לנתינת פדיונות ויחידות… וצדיקא דאתפטר, דאשתכח בהאי עלמא יתיר מבחיוהי, בטח נתן ברכתו והשי”ת ימלא ברכתו בגשמיות וברוחניות”.
Additional letters for the upcoming Chag HaGe’ulah – Tamuz 12-13 with additions and corrections handwritten by him.
A surprising statement by the Lithuanian Jerusalem Tzaddik, father-in-law of Rabbi Elyashiv and grandfather of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, who thanks the addressee for mentioning him to the Rebbe, writing: “נהניתי מאד ושמחתי בשמחת לבי וגילה נפשי מבשורתו כי נפקדתי אצל אדמו”ר מלובביץ שליט”א על ישראל הדרתו ותפארתו עד ביאת גו”צ [גואל צדק] ועד בכלל ובצילו ובזכות כל הצדיקים נחיה אין לשער גודל שמחתי”.
Also available are a $100 bill given directly by the Rebbe to one of Chabad Chassid in the Holy Land “לרכישת נחלה” and the rare Kuntres Ahavat Yisrael given directly by the Rebbe, a Tehillim used by the Rebbe to pour out his heart in 1978, and above all, a Tanya with the Rebbe’s handwritten signature. About this Tanya, the Rebbe said: “When you learn from this Tanya, all blessings will be fulfilled,” and other important and awe-inspiring expressions about the Kedusha of this sacred book, sealed by the King.
