NEW YORK (MYFOXNY)
The tristate region is getting another snow storm in a winter that already feels like it has dragged on forever.
The precipitation began as rain and sleet on Monday and changed over to snow around 8 a.m. on Monday.
Parts of New Jersey, New York City and Long Island could see as much as 4-8 inches of snow with 1-2 inches falling per hour.
The snow may fall heavily sometime between mid-morning and early Monday afternoon.
Temperatures were expected to remain in the low 30s during the storm with winds out of the North at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
The snow is expected to trail off at about 7 p.m.
The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a ‘snow alert’ for Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 starting at 1 a.m. That puts crews on alert to start preparing for snow removal.
Nearly one-fourth of the flights in and out of Newark Liberty Airport were canceled Monday morning as heavy snow fell.
The flight-tracking website FlightAware reports there are also cancelations at New York City’s LaGuardia and Kennedy Airports, but so far not as many.
In-bound flights are being delayed by three hours at Newark and four at LaGuardia, according to the Federal Aviation Administration Website.
Tuesday is expected to be sunny, but not for long, as another snowstorm is expected on Wednesday.
