After nearly 50 years at the helm of the iconic Kosher Quality bakery on Victoria Avenue in Côte des Neiges, David Klein has decided to sell the business to Simi Wenger and the Fooderie Market, which opened eight years ago on Avenue du Parc.
Wenger said he grew up on the same street, so the purchase is akin to a childhood dream.
He plans to modernize it and likely keep the same name, possibly Kosher Quality by Fooderie.
Mr. Klein told me he will only semi-retire and stay on part-time for the immediate future. Wenger, meanwhile, has designs on opening a Fooderie in South Florida.

Mr Klein was the nicest person to deal with.
I wish him the very best
Mr Klein is one of a kind. As a kid we would go to Kosher Quality and the ladies behind the counter had NUMBERS tattooed on their arms!! We too it for granted of where they came from and what their story was, what they live with every day!
On a lighter note…
Best Challah, Great Bagles! Cheese Bagles!! Knishes and so much more!
Ahhh Montreal!
Certainly Mr Wenger is gonna keep the tradition going and bring it back to it’s glory! This is a great idea and match!
HATZLOCHA RABA!!
Fond memories of the days prior to Mr. Klein, owned by the Rand Family, it was a real landmark with lines out the door, it was also much smaller, A delicious tasting Challah Bread, pastries, and cake
The nostalgia!
The memories of walking home after school from Bais Rivkah on Vezina Ave and walking up Victoria Ave near Bourret Ave.to get a danish from Kosher Quality Bakery before heading home!!!
It started as a small bakery and later expanded to a market and shabbos takeout venue.I was the best place to get Mr. Kleins famous “Shmata cake”.
Every time I return to Montreal, I always stop in there get that old hemish feeling back and of course the best fresh danishes….
