Monsey’s ‘Dinner of the Decade’

Marking its tenth year, Yeshivas Menachem Mendel Lubavitch of Monsey held its first ever dinner this week, appropriately titled ‘Dinner of the Decade.’

More than 150 members of the Monsey community participated in the dinner, held at the Paradise Hall in Monsey, celebrating the Yeshiva’s accomplishments and honoring those responsible for making the Yeshiva a premier educational institution in Lubavitch.

The evening began with welcoming remarks by the Yeshiva President, Yisroel Schulman, Esq., who with his wife, Rivka, chaired the dinner.

This was followed by Divrei Bracha given by the Rav of the Monsey community, Rabbi Boruch D. Lesches, who spoke of the important role that the Yeshiva plays and of the tremendous impact it has on the greater community.

During the dinner a supporter of the Yeshiva, who was unable to attend, pledged to match any donation up to $5,000 that is made today and tomorrow, during the very auspicious time leading up to Matan Torah (see below to take part in this)!

Rabbi Shea Werner, who flew in from Detroit where he serves as Rav of Bais Chabad of North Oak Park, presented his father, Rabbi Simcha Werner, with the Manhig Ruchni Award. Rabbi Simcha Werner is the pioneer of Lubavitch in Monsey and in addition to his Shlichus work serves as the Senior Mashpia of the Yeshiva. He spoke of the great love and caring that every member of the hanhola has for each individual bochur and of the success the Yeshiva has had with so many students.

The Patrons Award was presented to philanthropists Moshe and Yehudis Chana Meshchaninov and Ilya and Bracha Meschchaninov in honor of their generosity to the Yeshiva. The Meshchaninovs were introduced by their respective sons, Yehudi and Aron Yosef, who spoke beautifully about the remarkable Mesiras Nefesh their parents had for Yiddishkeit growing up in the Former Soviet Union and of the inspiring Torah, Chesed, and Tzedaka that comes out of their homes.

Yisroel Schulman then introduced the Mechanach Awardee, Rabbi Mendel Polter, who is the founder of the Mosad and its Rosh Yeshiva. Rabbi Polter’s remarks were followed by a wonderful video of the Yeshiva in action.

Throughout the evening singing sensation Shlomo Simcha entertained with beautiful nigunim.
