A new Chabad kollel has been bringing together 25 working Lubavitcher men from around Monsey and Pomona on a regular basis to infuse their lives with Torah and Chassidus.
Held twice a week at the Shul of Beis Menachem Mendel Lubavitch of Pomona, NY, it is led by Rabbi Dovid Weber, who initiated the Kollel along with his father-in-law Rabbi Simcha Werner of NCFJE of Rockland County.
The Kollel fills a need in the community, which has been growing tremendously in the last few years, its director Rabbi Levi Tiechtel told COLlive.com about the kollel that began 6 months ago.
“We realized that there are many men who live in the area who work all day, and would love an opportunity to learn regularly in a structured setting,” he said. “We started 6 months ago with 12 men participating, and now Baruch Hashem we have 25 people who join.”
Meeting for an hour every Monday and Wednesday, participants learn by Chavrusah and then listen to a Shiur. Refreshments are served and a stipend is offered to those who commit to attending regularly.
To keep the learning interesting, especially following a full day of work, Rabbi Tiechtel says they implemented an exciting learning regimen.
“Every month, we study a new topic in halacha, and host a new guest Rav to give the Shiurim. And every week, we delve into a new topic in Chassidus, with a different Rabbi or Mashpia teaching Chasidus throughout that month as well,” he says.
Guest Rabbonim have been featured from all over Monsey and New Jersey, and many of the Rabbonim giving lectures are experts and have written seforim in the topics they are teaching.
The guest Rabbonim, in addition to Rabbi Weber, include Rabbi Akiva Taub, Rav in New Square; Rabbi Avi Khan, Dayan in New City; Rabbi Chaim Schochet, Rav in Wesley Hills; Rabbi Aron Ganz, Rav in Monsey and Magid shiur in Morristown; Rabbi Chaim Schapiro, Menahel of Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in Morristown; Rabbi Yechezkal Feldberger, Rav in Monsey; Rabbi Moshe Browd, Mashpia in Airmont; Rabbi Shimon Dubinsky, Mashpia in Monsey, Rabbi Yehuda Zaltzman, a Mashpia in Monsey and Rabbi Ephraim Piekarsky, Mashpia in Morristown.
Scheduled to speak next month are Rabbi Gedalya Oberlander of Monsey and Rabbi Mendel Levin, Mashipa of Yeshiva Mesivta Menachem in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY.
The Kollel is growing each month and invites all to join. If you live in the Monsey area, contact Rabbi Tiechtel to join at 765-429-7678.
