The Jewish world will mark on Monday evening one year since the tragic murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan HY”D, one of the Shluchim to the United Arab Emirates.
In his memory, the Chabad community in the Emirates, led by the Rebbe’s Shliach and Chief Rabbi of the UAE, Rabbi Levi Duchman, has launched a worldwide campaign encouraging Jews everywhere to take upon themselves a hachlata tova—a good resolution—for his soul’s elevation.
The initiative invites participants to perform acts of goodness and kindness, ranging from putting on tefillin and visiting the sick, to giving tzedakah and increasing Torah study in local communities—reflecting the essence of Rabbi Kogan’s life, dedicated to spreading light and goodness.
As part of the memorial activities, Chabad’s global emergency and security organization, Chabad World Assistance (CWA), announced continued efforts to strengthen security measures in Jewish institutions and Chabad Houses worldwide, to ensure the safety of the public.
On Motzei Shabbos, a heartfelt farbrengen took place in preparation for the upcoming International Kinus Hashluchim and marking both Chof MarCheshvan and Rabbi Kogan’s first yahrzeit. Among the speakers were Rabbi Duchman, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Gurevich (Migdal HaEmek), Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar, Rabbi Shabtai Slavaticki (Antwerp), and Rabbi Eli Wolff (Israel).
“R’ Zvi always sought only to do good, to bring light wherever he went,” said his friends in the Emirates. “This campaign perfectly captures who he was—spreading light throughout the world.”
On Monday evening, friends, colleagues, and family members will gather at his resting place on Har HaZeisim (Mount of Olives) in Jerusalem.
