The Shifra and Puah organization, which provides assistance to new mothers in the community, will be celebrating 5 years with a dinner event.
The organization, which was founded 5 years ago by Nshei Chabad for Hebrew speakers in Crown Heights, was eventually expanded to include many families in the neighborhood who are in need of support and assistance after giving birth.
In the past five years, the organization has helped hundreds of new mothers with nutritious breakfasts delivered to their house, cleaning help, babysitting and driving. Bais Rivkah students volunteer to help with older children as well, giving the new mothers a chance to rest.
Shifra and Puah also connects needy families with other organizations that provide warm clothing for the baby, suppers, and more.
The organization has plans to continue to expand and grow its operations to continue to help many more families.
“We hope to add more hours to the amount of cleaning help we provide, as well as start subsidizing visits to a rest home for new mothers,” explains Chani Farkash, one of the organization’s directors. “We ask the community to come together to help our own by participating in our upcoming dinner and raffle,” she said.
The event will take place Thursday evening, Rosh Chodesh Adar 2 – March 10 at Lubavitch Yeshiva.
A dollar given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Donated by Mrs. Jacobson will be raffled off. To donate or purchase a raffle ticket, email [email protected], visit www.ShifraUPuahNCDI.com
