“Thank you for making a potentially uncomfortable situation feel so comfortable. We walked into to our personal appointment with the uniform gemach in Crown Heights to find racks of skirts fresh from the cleaners, both white and blue shirts hanging in size order and boxes of neatly folded sweaters and vests. You made my daughter feel welcome to keep trying skirts, sweaters and shirts until she had pulled together an assortment that fit her well. Not for one minute did we feel rushed or pressured in that room of chessed. On behalf of my daughter and I and the many other families who benefit from the gemach, I want to say thank you for hosting us so graciously .”
It is the letters of thanks, the sighs of relief from the parents and the shy smiles of the students that compel us to reach out to COLlive readers for help building the gemach inventory.
While we are the ones who receive these kind notes, and words of praise, you are the ones that enable the gemach to exist. It is heartwarming to see the amount of uniforms donated each year as school ends. It is heartwarming to receive the new items that are donated at the start of each new year as parents keep the gemach in mind when buying new uniforms for their children. It is heartwarming to see how many uniform items we receive erev pesach. It is heartwarming to see how much you care!
As the school year draws to a close we ask you to please keep the gemach in mind by dropping off gently worn uniforms, in good condition, on the porch of 1287 Carroll st btw Brooklyn and New York aves.
On behalf of our many gemach clients, we thank you for your partnership in bringing relief and smiles to the parents and children of our community.
A special note of thanks to Mr. Teich of Regency Cleaners for making sure every skirt is freshly pressed and repleated before making its way to our racks.
