A boy who was away from home has landed in Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on Wednesday and was warmly greeted by his family.
That might sound like a daily description of what goes on there, yet there is nothing standard about Leizer Galperin’s arrival.
Two years ago, at the age of 5, Galperin was severely injured, with burns over 80% of his body, when a fire broke out in his parents’ home in Kiryat Malachi.
The house was seriously damaged from the huge flames, and Leizer was hospitalized in very critical condition and later flown to a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio that specializes in severe burn injuries.
The news was particularly hard on his grandparents, Rabbi Shimon and Yehudis Rosenberg, who lost their daughter Rivky and husband Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
This week, the Rosenbergs were there with their grandson Moishy Holtzberg to greet Leizer Galperin who is walking with the help of prosthetics.
Upon seeing the boy who has undergone skin grafts, the family recited the blessings of Shehecheyanu and Hagomel.
“With Hashem’s help and with great miracles he returned to normal life, like an ordinary human being,” Rabbi Rosenberg, a resident of Afula, said.
“We thank Hashem for the fact that he was not hurt internally and thank everyone who helped and will continue to help,” Rosenberg added.
