Chief Mohel of Russia Yeshaya Shafit performed his 5000th circumcision in Volgograd, Russia.
The hero of the day was little Boruch Chigirinsky, the long-awaited son of a delightful local Jewish couple. The brit mila took place according to Jewish law on the boy’s eighth day of life.
In the winter of 1999, Rabbi Shafit performed the circumcision of six Volgograd residents, among them Eldad Moshe Chigirinsky.
Now, 11 years later, Chigirinsky’s son was the 5000th brit mila performed by the Chief Mohel! Mazal Tov!
Apart from little Boruch Chigirinskiy, there were several other boys who entered into the covenant of Abraham. Among them were Yitzchak (Andrey) Shiryaev, who attends the third grade at the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School. Yitzchak made this decision on his own.
Marina Shiryaeva, Andrey’s grandmother, noted, “Our family unanimously chose the name Yitzchak –the name of my grandfather, Andrei’s great grandfather. For us this is a true celebration! Thank you to Mohel Yeshaya – a real professional in his field.”
Another boy was had a brit mila on this occasion was eight-year-old Mark Yakubov, who adopted the Jewish name Aviel. On the same day, his father was also circumcised. Now all the men in the Yakubov family are proudly circumcised and bear Jewish names: Levy, Aviel, and Malkiel.
The Jewish community of Volgograd is a leading member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
