Nine years after he lost his parents and home in a horrifying terror attack in Mumbai, Moishy Holtzberg was embraced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Indian Prime Minister, currently visiting Israel, met Wednesday afternoon with the young boy, who survived a 2008 terrorist attack that killed his parents and several others at the Chabad Jewish center in Mumbai.
Holtzberg, now 10, was taken hostage along with his parents, Shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg HYD, along with 7 others, by terrorists who raided the Chabad House in India’s largest city.
In a photo of the meeting in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Moshe’s grandfather Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg are seen looking on as Prime Minister Modi warmly hugs Moshe.
Modi also met Moshe’s Indian nanny Sandra Samuels, who managed to escape with him from the Chabad House during the attack, and his grandparents Shimon and Yehudit Rosenberg and Rabbi Nachman and Freida Holtzberg, who flew in from New York for the meeting.
“Dear Mr. Modi, I love you and your people in India,” Moshe Holtzberg said in a short speech in English. “Always remember my parents,” he said, to applause.
Holtzberg now lives in Afula with his grandparents, Rabbi Shimon and Yehudit Rosenberg. When asked what he would say to India’s prime minister at their meeting, Rosenberg had said he plans to invite Modi to Moshe’s bar mitzvah.
Love for Moshele; I agree with No 8
It looks like Moshe is growing up with a lot of love. What a wonderful woman Sandra Samuels is. I am curious as to what her day to day life is in eretz yisroel.
dear MOSHELE
AL CLAL ISRAEL LOVES YOU VERY MUCH
Tchiat hameitim now!!!
Leaving aside the merits or demerits of this article, there is one issue that needs to be repeated. When the British ruled India, they changed the name of the the city where the Holzbergs were shluchim from the name that begins with an “M” to Bombay. That is the name that Jews should use. Mum…is the name of a Moon goddess. To say that name, is the same as a Jew using the “J” name for the Jew who the majority religion in this country consider to be HaShem’s “son.” We certainly don’t say THAT name. Neither should we call… Read more »
