Yad L’Achim has revealed the shocking identity of a Christian missionary who spent years masquerading as a chareidi rabbi, tricking unsuspecting Jews and foreign visitors.
The man, identified as Ariel Katzenberg, began his scheme in Bnei Brak before moving to Harish, Migdal and other northern communities, where he lived a double life. Disguised as a rabbi, Katzenberg officiated at weddings, conversions, and delivered Torah classes. At the same time, he was caught on film conducting baptisms and working to convert Jews to Christianity.
Yad L’Achim documented his fraudulent activities, including the use of forged papers submitted to rabbinical courts. He particularly targeted foreign tourists, extracting tens of thousands of shekels in exchange for fake documents attesting to their supposed conversion or Jewish status. Many were left penniless, unable to afford food, lodging, or travel.
Rabbi Shimon Abergel, field coordinator of Yad L’Achim’s counter-missionary department, said: “We demonstrated to the courts that the documents had been forged, and they were shocked.”
In recent months, Katzenberg managed to infiltrate official circles, even meeting with prominent rabbis and public officials before his deception came to light. Following the revelations, rabbinical courts began issuing new conversion certificates enhanced with advanced security features to protect against further forgeries.
A Yad L’Achim official stated: “The technique of impersonation and deception is typical among missionaries. This con artist went to great lengths to hunt down innocent victims and lead them astray. We will continue to pursue missionaries wherever they are and block their attempts by all legitimate means.”

But it’s the clear and proof definition of no faith in G-d. Even if he appears to be a rabbi with semicha.
Its sickening.
He doesn’t believe in god
Obviously his jewish ceremonies and not kosher…but we need to ask…are his baptisms at least Kosher!?!
He is just coaching
He is the sheretz in the mikvah…
What was done to stop him? He must be stopped and forced to return all the money.
He is wearing a wedding band, very few Orthodox men – especially a rabbi- wear wedding rings. Also he is wearing a another ring on his other hand!
Nobody found it strange?
Many sefardim male wear rings. What might be weird for Ashkenazim, is normal for sefardim. Did you know that a famed Chabad Rov wore an earing? (The Rashab told him to always wear it!) Does a ring on the finger or in the ear mean that he is less of a rov???!!
How is that not the first sign of being fake?!?!
The scoundrels ring on his finger, should’ve given him away…they should make him wear it in his nose forever, like the chazer that he is.
Make him grovel in the mud of the Gazan tunnels, searching for booby traps.
A small atonement for the wickedness of trapping Yiddishe neshomas
Doesn’t look Jewish…
Also do charedi Rabbis where wedding rings…its definitely rooted in non Jewish customs…
Rav Moshe Feinstein (Igros Moshe Evan HaEzer, v. 4, 32:2) discusses whether it is permissible for a man to wear a wedding band, citing the prohibition of “Bechukasayhem lo selechu,” the prohibition against “walking in the way” of non-Jews, meaning following their laws and rules. He writes that this prohibition is NOT applicable here (meaning wearing the wedding band is permissible) because there is no law or statute amongst non-Jews to wear a wedding band after a man gets married. Since men who wear them only do so as an ornament, as jewelry, or to demonstrate they are married, and… Read more »
With him and conversions with him need to do a redo?
Of course. If they were done improperly
ban him from entering Israel and the United States forever
stupid goy!
quit. quit being a rabbi. just quit now. all you stupid fake rabbis who don’t even observe the Torah.
Whoa!
“All you stupid fake Rabbis”!?
You have a lot of anger!
He is an imposter, but everyone else!?
I see he is wearing a wedding ring. Not the usual practice of charedim. Would that not be a red flag?
I saw that too & immediately thought the same thing.
Guess he didn’t learn that chapter of Halacha properly.
We want Moshiach now.
He deserves life imprisonment.
Does the government in Eretz Yisroel maintain a list of people who were converted? It needs to reach out to the victims and explain that the conversions are not valid.
There’s an 8 year old video on YouTube accusing him of being a fraud: https://youtu.be/nEcwKG9gQvY?feature=shared
Who should have stopped him that didn’t stop him? Isc he going to make headlines again in 5 years?
next time you notice something a bit bizarre (like a supposedly chareidi rabbi wearing a ring or similar) just do a google search! thats all it took to figure out he is a missionary!
It says that he delevered Torah classes. I find it most odd that he put his head in seforim and was able to teach Torah with his agenda. Beyond odd.
This low-life may be emotionally unbalanced, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be jailed for fraud considering all the fraudulent documents etc.he’s been issuing. Why isn’t this being discussed?
His face is not pure like a Chosid or Rav who is an eved Hashem, yarei Shamayim. He looks like a shallow, jokester, not someone pure, not someone growth oriented, how does this happen!?
Maybe our generation, ppl are not in touch with their own soul!
