Congregation B’nai Avraham’s Mei Menachem Community Mikvah in Brooklyn Heights, New York, recently held an event that brought Jewish women together for learning and celebrations.
The congregation’s Sisterhood, under the leadership of Marcie Roth with the help of Mariel Cohn, organized and meticulously planned this exciting gathering to present the Mikvah as an all encompassing experience.
The theme of the event, hosted by Shlucha Shternie Raskin/, was the Mikvah as Alternative Therapy.
It was enthusiastically attended by over 100 women eager to learn more about the connection between mikvah and the benefits of alternative therapies such as essential oils, aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage and herbal remedies.
Each presenter discussed her specialty in depth, and answered questions at the end of each session, when the women participants changed tables and went on to learn more about other therapies.
In addition, tours of the spa-like Mei Menachem Mikvah were given, where women learned about the laws of mikvah, how mikvah replenishes the soul and how it enhances the essence of a woman’s marriage. The same mikvah was famously toured by TV personality Oprah Winfrey.
As the alternative therapy professionals discussed their healing specialties, women participants were taught about additional ways to heighten health, serenity and inner relaxation.
“We learned that mikvah is indeed a profound spiritual pathway for women that deeply affects their spiritual and family lives, and that alternative therapies can also heighten quality of life physically and spiritually,” said Mrs. Raskin.
