When your institution is the largest Jewish school in the US outside the tri-state area, you’re going to need multiple campuses to house all the students.
Lubavitch Educational Center has three, with two more currently under renovation. But with over 2,300 students enrolled from early childhood through Yeshiva Gedolah for the upcoming school year, and over 400 staff members to lead them, even these five aren’t enough.
“We’re bursting at the seams,” says Head of School Rabbi Benjy Korf. “Every classroom is full, every office is being shared, every dorm room is taken.” The school that opened with just seven students in 1967 at the direction of the Rebbe has experienced unprecedented growth in the past few years. Even so, says Rabbi Korf, “We can’t turn away a child seeking a Jewish education due to lack of space.”
That’s why LEC is proud to announce that they entered into contract for the $15 million purchase of the property adjacent to Campus Chaya Mushka. The additional 4.5 acres, with its four 1-story buildings, will bring the campus to a total of 7 acres.
“This purchase is a no-brainer,” says one generous donor, who asked to remain anonymous. “The fact that it is contiguous to the existing girls’ building makes this worth every penny.”
Now they have to raise the funds. The $4.5 million down payment is due on September 1 and they’ve raised $2.1 million to date, thanks to a number of supporters who have generously stepped up. “Ever since I have started donating to LEC, the Rebbe’s school, the Brachos I have received have been absolutely miraculous,” says longtime LEC supporter Mr. Motti Levy. “I feel like a soldier in the Rebbe’s army, by partnering with his shluchim in this vital mission of education.”
Quality education remains the school’s focus. “This space will give us the ability to form more classes, open more remedial programs, and enhance our stellar education,” says Rabbi Korf. “We remain committed to the continuous improvement in every aspect of our children’s education—from teacher training to the latest technological advances.”
