The talmidim of Mesivta Ohr Temimim – Toronto spent a very meaningful three day Lag Ba’Omer trip with their Hanhala and Shluchim. “Mishpacha Resort”, which was rented exclusively for the Mesivta, offers beautiful natural grounds with a huge lakefront for swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking and of course a Mikvah along with many other outdoor activities.
The Talmidim utilized the opportunity of having their Friday, Shabbos and Sunday shiurim of Chasiddus and niglah in the fresh and pleasant country outdoors. On Friday after settling in, the boys enjoyed some activities, games and as it got closer to Shabbos, the lake became the Mikva and the talmidim greeted Shabbos with high spirits.
After Shabbos which included a spirited and shturemdike farbrengen with Rabbi Posner and Rabbi Shusterman, the boys worked hard at getting the traditional Medura – bonfire lit and had a chasiddishe kumzitz late into Motsei Shabbos.
“Spending three days together in an enjoyable and relaxed environment, davening, learning and farbrenging together, the bochurim returned to their regular seder in yeshiva energized and with a new chayus to finish off this amazing year with an added fervor and koch in Limud Hatora,” said Menahel Rabbi Eliezer Posner.
Mesivta Ohr Temimim – Toronto bochurim, learn Chasiddus, Gemara Rashi and Tosfos in depth with Meforshim and Poskim, Rosh, Rif, Ran and Rambam and Alter Rebbe where applicable. They also delve into the WHY various poskim rule differently and how they arrive at their p’sak. Gemara Le’Girsa and Shulchan Aruch are studied in the afternoon. While keeping with the standards of learning and hanhaga of Lubavitch Mesivtas, we strongly believe in employing an individualized learning program when a bochur needs it.
In the late afternoon, parents and talmidim will have the options of choosing from several subjects of Kodesh and Chol: In Kodesh, the Mesivta offers two Bekius Tracks; Halacha and Mishnayos. The bochurim can complete the entire Shas Mishnayos and complete the entire Kitzur Shulchan Aruch of the applicable daily Halachos. This track includes review sheets and rigorous tests. In Chol, the Mesivta offers the option of an Accredited General Studies Program, leading to a recognized diploma. For those not seeking a diploma, we offer a course of the practical application of math and language for daily living, after which they continue their Limudei Kodesh till dinner time.
“With a serious day of Limud Ha’Torah in a beautiful and spacious learning facility, on-site Mikva and a well-equipped dormitory, the Mesivta provides the bochurim with the ideal learning setting,” said Rabbi Baruch Zaltzman, Dean.

It is very thoughtful for a yeshiva to keep a structured and supervised schedule on Lag BOmer. Other yeshivas are closed and really have no idea or control over what their students are doing. Here each bochur’s activities is fully accounted for!
Kudos to the hanhala who spearheaded this innovative concept. The bochurim are educated as true erliche temimim and hold steadfast to undiluted chassidishkeit in a truly remarkable setting of genuine care for each bochur’s needs and goals.
In Israel there are levels of Yeshiva for different bochurim. An alef Yeshiva is serious 24/7 learning, then there are bais or even gimmel Yeshivos that caters to less intense bochurim.chabad needs to adopt a similar system. It’s not all or nothing. There are levels of Yeshivos in between.
All Lubavitch mesivtas and Zals should offer two tracks. This way a bochur wanting to learn for 6 hours a day, and be in a positive yeshiva environment still has the option of learning Chol subjects in a Torah atmosphere. Too many boys waste a good portion of their day and thus want out of the system. What a shame that we are failing the next generation in the name of chassidus.
Too bad this mesivta wasn’t around earlier.
