In a quiet, leafy street in the heart of Melbourne’s Jewish community, one will find Merkos seminary. Girls come to partake in the inspiring and enriching classes and range of programs they have to offer. Merkos is the ultimate seminary experience.
Offering daily classes in Chassidus, Halacha, Tanya and a range of other subjects, the students are challenged and engaged with the learning. With individualized learning options as well as group learning, students are able to learn at both advanced and beginner levels. Merkos is unique in that it is a small, close-knit, family style seminary where students feel more like they are part of an extended family than enrolled in an institution. The staff and teachers have been carefully chosen to impart the most genuine and nurturing education to the girls. Our Dean Rabbi Yehuda Hoch teaches each morning and our director Nicole Kornhauser is committed to each students welfare, and passionate about nurturing the personal growth of each girl.
Merkos is situated in a beautiful house surrounded by picturesque gardens with a pool, gym and multiple living areas. The girls enjoy delicious and healthy homemade meals. With all their physical needs taken care of, students are able to dedicate their time to Jewish growth and study. There are Shlichus opportunities available as well as times Merkos engages with the local community. Numerous trips and Shabbatons take place during the year and the girls will participate in many memorable experiences.
In the words of a past student, “Merkos has become a haven where my connection to Hashem and my Yiddishkeit has flourished like never before. Immersed in this environment conducive to learning, I find myself growing and evolving every single day. The morning classes led by Rabbi Hoch set the stage for a beautiful start to each day. The afternoon sessions, featuring various teachers from the community, are both thought-provoking and captivating. In the evenings, esteemed Rabbis and Rebbetzins grace our dorms, sharing incredible Torah wisdom. This past Shabbos we had a shabbaton in the stunning Australian outback where we enjoyed a most fun and uplifting Shabbos away.
Being part of the Merkos family has instilled in me a profound sense of belonging. I feel truly at home in this special place that I was blessed to discover. The gratitude I have for everything Merkos has done for me knows no bounds, and I am filled with hope that my journey will continue to ascend to new heights. Moreover, I am reminded of the profound teachings and legacy of the Rebbe, which have undoubtedly shaped the spirit of Merkos and continue to inspire its students.”
Merkos is accepting applications for the coming year 5785. Please visit our website to apply: merkos.com.au or email us for more information at [email protected]

Is this a seminary for women who are becoming frum? Or women who have had a frum education?
both 🙂 everyone learns from eachother
Who’s this beautiful Madricha /Shlucha
I went to merkos and can attest that’s it’s an incredible seminary
It’s a sem that cares, where you feel like the hanhola is rlly on “your side”. It’s a place where you can not only learn, but incorporate your learning, in the kitchen, with shlichus and more.
A place where YOU are valued – and your contributions are encouraged and welcomed
Best described it’s not a sem, it’s a family.
This seminary is a place where you feel, valued for your input, inspirational classes and lifelong friendships are made. It’s not just a seminary it’s a family and you truly feel it when not just living in the dorm, but also the other girls in the dorm are there to push you, inspire, and cheer you on and make you feel like your opinion and choices are import ant and valued.
I grew up frum, and coming to this seminary has been a b”H very grounded and growing year.
Living with a mix of other girls on all levels of Yiddishkeit, and us all looking to grow, really ensures that we actually do. And not only that, with this growth mindset all around, no one gets stuck in the things that most other seminaries have issues with.
And Mrs. Nicole Kornhauser, is actually the best and really works with every student one on one in the most caring way.
I’m still close with the friends I made here years later ✨
