A Shabbat in Crown Heights for children who take part in the CKids program around the world has been postponed, Merkos 302 announced today.
The annual Shabbaton and JewQ International Torah Championship, for which 180 children were scheduled to travel to New York this weekend, will be postponed due to the spread of the Coronavirus, Merkos said.
The Shabbaton is the culmination of months of study by nearly 2,500 children, with regional competitions taking place around the world. The finalists were scheduled to take part in a grand finale tournament event on Sunday, after many months of planning by the organizers.
After consulting with “medical experts and Rabbonim,” Merkos said they made the decision to postpone the event. “While this is not the ideal situation, safety is paramount,” they said.
Organizers told COLlive they are exploring various options, such as online competition event and other options which will be announced in the near future.
