Chanukah in the City, among the largest annual Queensland Jewish events, drew almost 1000 people from all walks of life who converged onto the picturesque Queens Gardens in the center of Brisbane where a majestic 6-metre Menorah stands proudly for the lead-up and duration of Chanukah.
The event was graced by the presence of various political leaders from various levels of Government, local, state and federal. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner was honoured with the lighting of the Shamash and the Mayor, along with the other speakers spoke glowingly about the Jewish community and their support for Israel.
The MC for the event was Olivia Wilbury, executive producer of the popular Sydney based radio show 2GB.
The atmosphere of the evening was enhanced by the beautiful music of Sababah band, accompanied by celebrated violinist, Ben Adler.
Among the highlights of the evening was the recital of the 12 Pesukim – Torah verses by the children, and a sensational light and sound drumming show, followed by spirited music and dancing to conclude yet another most wonderful and uplifting Brisbane Chanukah in the City.
