Rabbi Shalom Harlig, Chabad Shliach in San Bernardino, CA and the surrounding Inland Empire area, lit a Menorah at the site of the recent terror attack which took 14 lives and injured 21 more.
Rabbi Harlig, accompanied by his sons Mordy Harlig and Mendy Harlig, lit the first Chanukah candle in memory of the victims of the worst terror attack in the United States since September 11.
“The flames come to teach us what it says in the Torah, that a little light gets rid of a lot of darkness,” said Harlig.
As one of their “spiritual children” who now has 4 chassidishe children of her own BH, yes–well said! May they continue dispelling darkness and kindling neshamas (souls)!
in the times of Chanukah we had to do both. We had to fight the Hellenic government of the Greeks who wanted to kill our Jewish Spirit. Just as in this times with the rampant antisemitism and Terrorism in our mist we have to both fight wars but also we have to wage a spiritual war storming the heavens with our prayers, Torah study and Mitzvots.
Who said it has to do with terror. If you hear he is saying about the menorah not terror. When we do good we show the greatest
“in a dark room,
you don’t pick up a stick to fight the dark,
rather, light even a small light to dispel the darkness”.
so how does that parable translate?
“with terrorists,
don’t fight terror (bombing them, jailing them etc…),
rather, do acts of kindness to dispel terrorism.”
really?
can someone explain how by not fighting the terrorist but doing acts of kindness is the way to fight terror? dont we need both?
Thank you for spreading the message!
but i would like to understand it.
CAN SOME COMMENTING EXPLAIN?
it is thanks to Rabbi Harlig I am frum today!
Chanie and Sholom Ber have without fanfare, impacted so many lives, inspiring them to lead lives of torah and mitsvos. They have many spiritual children who have integrated into anash communities in large frum communities and are raising their families as true frum chassidim. May they only know of joyful occasions in their mokom hashlichus. Moshiach now!.
