Tears glistened in the eyes of the soldiers and visitors to Ammunition Hill – Giv’at HaTahmoshet this Thursday, as all 8 candles of the menorah were lit on the concluding night of Chanukah. Standing upon the earth that symbolizes heroism, sacrifice and victory, at the site that witnessed one of the fiercest battles of the six-day war, now for the first time, witnessing the flames of the menorah.
Amidst the pouring rain, the guests broke out in song and dance to the light of the Chanukah candles. Feeling the warmth and perseverance of the unextinguishable Jewish flame that continues to burn bright.
The event concluded with an emotional song of “Ani Maamim,” a prayer for a future without war, and for a world of peace.
The menorah lighting was in honor of the founder and benefactor of Giv’at HaTahmoshet, Mr. Harry Oscar Trigoboff OAM of Sydney Australia. Hosted by Rabbi Chaim and Chana Levy, and attended by the site’s CEO, Keteri Maoz and the director of the Harry Oscar Trigoboff Institute Mr. Shalom Norman, with video greetings from Knesset member Elazar Stern.
