Stories, songs and student collaboration were the order of the day at Beth Rivkah Ladies College of Melbourne, Australia, on Gimmel Tammuz this year.
A memorable morning was arranged for the entire school to mark the Yortzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe OBM.
The theme for this year was the Rebbe’s Mitvzo’im and students spent the weeks leading up to Gimmel Tammuz learning about the Mivtzo’im and creating projects about them. As well, each class studied Tanya baal peh in preparation for the day of Gimmel Tammuz.
On Tuesday, Gimmel Tammuz, each primary school class was joined by Secondary students who participated in interactive experiences focusing on the significance of Gimmel Tammuz, with special emphasis on the Mitvzo’im.
Hachlotos (positive resolutions) were made together, games were played, and stories were shared. A fabrengen was held in each classroom, with students participating in Torah, Tefilla, and Tzedaka. Students made a lechayim together and wrote a Pidyon Nefesh to the Rebbe.
Students remarked that being buddied up with older / younger students allowed for meaningful interactions between students which truly enhanced the day. The achdus in the school was palpable as older and younger girls mingled with each other and shared in the importance of the day.
